Almatur Celebrates Its 70th Anniversary: A Grand Reunion of Almatur Alumni in Warsaw
Biuro Podróży Almatur, the longest-operating travel agency in Poland, celebrated its 70th anniversary. On 19 September 2026, the Palladium Club on ul. Złota in Warsaw hosted the Grand Reunion of Almatur Alumni: employees, tour guides, camp counsellors, and participants of camps, trips and expeditions from all over Poland and abroad. The event was held under the patronage of the Fundacja Ogólnopolskiej Komisji Historycznej Ruchu Studenckiego (Foundation of the National Historical Commission of the Student Movement).
The gala included an official part with honoured guests and the presentation of awards, a retrospective of seven decades of history, an exhibition of archival photographs and materials, and an evening of music.
Seven Decades of Student Travel
Almatur was established on 4 October 1956 by decision of the Ministry of Higher Education (Ministerstwo Szkolnictwa Wyższego) as an agency of the Zrzeszenie Studentów Polskich (Association of Polish Students), under the name Biuro Wczasów Podróży i Turystyki. For young Poles it became a window to the world: around it operated student clubs for hiking, mountain, kayaking, sailing, horse riding, caving and diving, and tent camps, cabins and International Student Hotels were built.
After the transformation of the 1990s, the agency changed its profile. Today it has one of the largest offers of camps and holiday programmes for children and young people in Poland, and it is a member of WYSE Travel Confederation, the ISIC Association and the Polish Chamber of Tourism (Polska Izba Turystyki).
Turystyczna Organizacja Otwarta (Open Tourism Organisation) congratulates Almatur on its anniversary and wishes it many more decades of travel.
